Troubleshooting

A quote total looks wrong

If the total doesn't match what you expect, here's how to track down why — usually a line item, tax, or a deposit.

If a quote total doesn’t match the number in your head, it’s almost always something small and findable — a stray line, tax, or a deposit doing exactly what you set it to. Here’s how to spot it.

Check the lines

  1. Read every line item

Open the quote and add up the lines yourself. The usual culprit is a line with the wrong price or quantity, or one you meant to delete. Fix it and the total updates live.

    • 40-gal water heater (supply)$620
    • Labor — 4 hrs$360
    • Haul away old unit$60
    • Permit$200
    Total$1,240

  2. Check tax and deposit

If the lines add up but the total still looks off, check whether tax is applied and what your deposit is set to — a 50% deposit means the “due now” figure is half the total, which can look wrong at a glance.
